New signing Scott Bamborough curled in a sublime free kick to earn Ryton & Crawcrook Albion a 1-1 draw against neighbours Whickham in the final pre-season friendly on Friday evening.
In an even encounter at a warm Kingsley Park, it was the Division One visitors who broke the deadlock when Conor Newton fired from the edge of the box after 40 minutes.
Bamborough, the central midfielder signed from Killingworth and announced shortly before kick off, curled in the equaliser minutes later with a brilliant free-kick from twenty-five yards. The goal had most of the crowd of 143 in raptures going into half time.
Despite looking for a winner in the second period, Albion had to settle for a draw to conclude their short pre-season campaign, which included victories over Edinburgh United, Coxhoe Athletic and Prudhoe YCFC and narrow defeats at Sunderland RCA and Billingham Town.
Daniel Iredale's men kick off the new Ebac Northern Football League Division Two season at home to Heaton Stannington next Saturday, 31 July.
